I play a lot of driving games, but few of them make me protect my cargo and push my luck at the same time. Hustle & Drift in ZIL does exactly that. It runs straight in the browser, so you click and play. There is nothing to download or install.
On the country roads, the ZIL feels heavy and a little slow to respond compared with a race car. On my very first delivery I turned too hard and the cargo flew right off the truck bed. That was when I understood this game is not about going fast. If you speed and lose your cargo, your bonus disappears with it.
I got curious and did some digging. ZIL stands for “Zavod imeni Likhachova,” which means the plant named after Likhachov. The ZIL-130 model came off the line in 1962, and it was the first ZIL truck painted in civilian white and blue instead of military khaki. According to GlobalSecurity, the ZIL-130 also served as the base for roughly sixty different versions, from flatbed trucks and dump trucks to fire engines. Knowing that, I think the game picked the right truck. It was built to carry almost anything.
| Key | Function | When I Use It |
|---|---|---|
| W A S D or arrow keys | Drive and steer | All the time |
| Space | Handbrake | Sharp turns and U-turns |
| Left Shift | Nitro | Long straight stretches |
| T | Toggle Drift Mode | Wide corners when the cargo feels secure |
| C | Change camera | I often switch to the interior view to judge the road |
| P | Switch music | When I get tired of the current track |
| Mouse | Look around | Checking the cargo behind me |
I lift early and only then turn the wheel. Don’t wait until the truck is already leaning. This keeps the cargo much steadier than braking in the middle of a turn.
The longer the corner, the longer your payout multiplier keeps building. On tight corners I switch it off and use short handbrake taps instead.
I once hit nitro right before a bend and ended up with cargo scattered all over the road. Now I press Left Shift only when the road ahead is clear.
Every successful delivery pays a reward. I upgrade first and buy a new truck later, because a well-upgraded truck drives better than a brand new one that is still rough around the edges. Once I’m comfortable with the handling, I switch to a stronger truck and try the harder routes.
No. It’s an online game, so I just open my browser and play.
The controls are designed for a keyboard and mouse, so I recommend playing on a computer for the best experience.
It means you are taking corners too fast. Lift off the gas earlier and use the handbrake gently.
It can, if you drift before you have control of the truck. Practice on wide corners first to get used to it.
I like Hustle & Drift in ZIL because it keeps a good balance between playing safe and taking risks. Try one delivery and you’ll see what I mean.
